WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) — In recent weeks, multiple national stores have announced bankruptcies and store closings. This ongoing trend leaves the Wausau Center Mall and malls across the United States working to find businesses to occupy empty storefronts.
“If they can’t make their quotes as far as what they’re selling, they really have no choice to be honest,” Wausau resident Jason Nytes said.
“We know that retail’s changing and that any mall operator has to kind of address those issues,” Wausau Planning, Community and Economic Development Director Christian Schock said.
The Wausau Center Mall has gotten creative with a children’s museum, visiting exhibits and even a Wausau City Schools center renting space.
