TJX Cos. Inc.is opening a TJ Maxx/HomeGoods combination store in a portion of the long-empty Home Depot location in Cottage Grove.

The 38,000-square-foot store is opening in a portion of the building — which has been vacant since 2008 — at Grove Plaza (7210 E. Point Douglas Road), according to Cushman & Wakefield. TJ Maxx/HomeGoods anticipates a fall opening.

TJ Maxx is a discount department store chain and HomeGoods is a discount home furnishing store. Both are subsidiaries of Framingham, Mass.-based TJX (NYSE: TJX).

Deb Carlson, senior director at Cushman & Wakefield Minneapolis-St. Paul, represented the landlord, Philadelphia, Pa.-based EBL&S Development, in the deal. Stephanie Meyer and Johnny Reimann with Mid-America Real Estate-Minnesota represented TJ Maxx/HomeGoods.
