Amazon is the largest and most successful online retailer. In fact, the average Amazon shoppers spend between $700 and $1,300 a year. Whether you use Amazon to buy your everyday essentials like toothpaste, new carry on luggage, or one of their many digital products including the Echo Dot there’s a credit card for you to maximize your Amazon purchases. But is the Amazon credit card the best credit card for Amazon purchases? Personally, I use one of the best travel credit cards, but here are some of the other best credit cards for Amazon purchases.
Best Credit Cards for Amazon Purchases:
- Chase Amazon Credit Card
- Discover it
- Chase Freedom
Chase Amazon Credit Cards: Highest Everyday Cashback Reward
Amazon offers two co-branded cash rewards credit cards with Chase. These cards shouldn’t be confused with the Amazon Store Card issued by Synchrony Bank which is only a store charge card.
You can apply for two different Amazon credit cards through Chase:
- Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card
- Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card
Both Chase Amazon credit cards have a tiered purchase rewards program and don’t charge an annual fee or foreign transaction fee.
Earning Amazon Credit Card Points
You can expect to earn unlimited Amazon cash back with every purchase as detailed below:
- 3% back at Amazon.com (5% for Prime members with the Prime Rewards Card)
- 2% at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores
- 1% on everything else
Redeeming Your Amazon Credit Card Points
The rewards points are worth 1 cent each (100 points=$1) and can be redeemed for:
- Amazon store credit
- Cash statement credits
- Gift cards
- Award Travel
If you’re an Amazon junkie, you can quickly accumulate the points to save money on future Amazon purchases. Depending on the travel deals available, you might be able to focus on using your Amazon for rewards travel. But, if you’re like the average Amazon Prime member that only spends $1,300 a year on Amazon that’s only 3,900 points that are worth $39 in award travel.
The co-branded Amazon credit cards are best for getting cash back, but, there are better credit cards for Amazon purchases if you prefer travel rewards to cash back.
Earning 5% Cashback One Quarter a Year
For the 4th quarter of 2017 and 2018, the Discover It Card will give you 5% cash back on your first $1,500 in Amazon.com purchases for an additional $64 cash back reward. After that, and for the rest of the year, you will earn 1% cash back on all other Amazon purchases because Discover’s 5% bonus category rotates every quarter.
It’s a bummer that you only get 5% cashback for three months a year at Amazon, but it can’t come at a better time. After all, if you…
